The Select Board held a public meeting Monday, October 12, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the Chester Arthur Room to discuss the Swanton Wind Project and to gauge the community’s thoughts.

Free Showing of Windfall

With the proposed Swanton Wind Project scheduled to overshadow Fairfield Pond, many of us in the community have been educating ourselves about wind and how it will affect our town and it’s people, property values, taxes and electrical rate hikes, wildlife and more. In this documentary, learn more about industrial wind turbines and what happened in Meredith, NY, a tiny community similar to Swanton and Fairfield. Hear both sides of the story of a community divided over wind turbines.

This 84 minute movie will address and answer many of your questions and concerns.

President Chester A. Arthurs 186th Birthday Celebration


A party commemorating the 186th birthday of Vermont-born President Chester A. Arthur will be held at the President Chester A. Arthur State Historic Site in Fairfield, Vermont on Saturday, Oct. 3rd from 11 am to 3 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Attendants will discover little-known facts about President Arthur in the “True or False Treasure Hunt” and view the permanent exhibit on President Chester Arthur’s life and political career. Activities for children will include face painting and traditional games (with prizes) along with a not-so-traditional “Put the Mutton Chops on President Arthur” competition. Party-goers can also enjoy the beautiful forest trails, maintained by students from Fairfield Center School, and of course, some Presidential birthday cake!
